Traxsource and Beatport are both download stores for DJs, but they suit different crates. Traxsource leans heavily towards house and related styles, with DJ-curated charts and a straightforward choice of MP3, WAV or AIFF. Beatport covers a broader range of electronic music, refreshes its charts daily and adds streaming plans. If you play house, it's worth checking both. And if you used to buy from Juno Download, which closed on 1 June 2026, its farewell message pointed customers to Traxsource, Beatport, Mixupload and Volumo; Bandcamp is the other obvious option.

Catalogue and genres

Traxsource's genre menu shows its centre of gravity: House, Deep House, Soulful House, Garage, Afro House, Nu Disco / Indie Dance, Jackin House, Tech House, Techno, Classic House, Soul / Funk / Disco, Minimal / Deep Tech and more. If you play soulful, deep, garage-leaning or classic house, that level of detail makes browsing faster.

Beatport's streaming page describes a catalogue of millions of electronic tracks split into more than 40 sub-genres, alongside open-format styles such as hip hop, R&B and Latin. It's the wider net, with fine splits in techno, house and bass music.

Charts and discovery

Traxsource's home page features DJ Top 10s, a Hype Chart, Essentials, Hidden Gems, Upfront Promos, Weekend Weapons and pre-orders. The DJ charts in particular reward browsing: a ten-track list from a DJ whose sound you like is a quick route to new labels.

Beatport has an overall Top 100, a Top 100 for each genre, Hype charts and DJ charts. Our guide to Beatport charts explains how each one works, and finding underground house music shows how to use both stores' charts for digging.

Prices and formats

Prices overlap. On 3 October 2026, Traxsource's Top 10 tracks were all $1.99, while Beatport's overall Top 100 split into 26 tracks at $1.49, 55 at $1.69 and 19 at $2.49. Neither store is consistently cheaper; compare the track you want.

On formats, Traxsource's support center says its MP3s are all 320 kbps and its WAV and AIFF files are uncompressed. Its tip on choosing: "Most Pro DJ's choose AIFF files," because they combine WAV quality with tags and embedded artwork. Traxsource also lets you upgrade past MP3 purchases to AIFF or WAV at any time. Beatport's upgrade path works similarly: pay the difference, which its support center lists as 0.70 units of your local currency.

Streaming

Beatport runs Beatport Streaming, with US plans listed at $10.99 to $34.99 a month as of October 2026 and integrations with major DJ software and hardware. Traxsource is a download store. If you want to stream inside DJ software, that's a point for Beatport, with the caveat that Beatport's streaming terms say public performance needs additional licensing. Is Beatport worth it? covers the plans.

What happened to Juno Download

Juno Download, launched in 2006, announced its closure on 1 June 2026. Mixmag's Megan Townsend and The Quietus's Christian Eede both reported the farewell message posted on the site, which ended: "There's still plenty of great music available from Traxsource, Beatport, Mixupload and Volumo, but for now, this is Juno Download signing off."

According to The Quietus, existing customers keep access to what they already downloaded, while buying new music there has stopped. It also noted that Juno Records, the vinyl-focused online store, continues as normal and has been separate from Juno Download since 2013.

In a statement to Resident Advisor, reported by Mixmag, Juno Download's COO Lucas Garcia explained the decision: with streaming now the main way people consume digital music, and artists and labels reaching fans directly through social media and services like Bandcamp, "the role of the music webstore is becoming less significant".

Where former Juno buyers can go

If you bought on Juno for...Consider
House and its sub-genresTraxsource
A broad electronic catalogueBeatport
Getting several formats in one purchaseVolumo, whose home page says one purchase includes MP3, WAV, AIFF and FLAC
A subscription instead of per-track buyingMixupload, which describes access to millions of tracks via subscription
Independent labels and direct support for artistsBandcamp
VinylJuno Records, which continues separately

If you still have purchases on Juno Download that you haven't backed up, download them from your account first.

How to choose

  • By genre. Mostly house: start with Traxsource and check Beatport for gaps. Broad electronic: start with Beatport.
  • By habit. If DJ charts drive your digging, Traxsource's DJ Top 10s are a strong reason to visit weekly. If you want streaming alongside buying, Beatport.
  • By the track. Search both before buying. Availability, versions and prices vary by release.

The pillar guide on where DJs buy music puts both next to Bandcamp and others, and Beatport vs Bandcamp for DJs covers that comparison.

A worked example: checking one track on both stores

As an illustration, say a DJ plays a deep house track you want, and both stores carry the release. Run the same five checks on each store before you buy:

  1. Version. Match the mix name to what you heard. If the DJ played a long, percussive cut with no vocal, a vocal version with the same title won't give you that record.
  2. Label and release date. If they differ between the two stores, you may be looking at a reissue or a different release.
  3. Format. On Traxsource you pick MP3 320, WAV or AIFF. On Beatport, the MP3 price is the starting point, and a lossless copy costs the 0.70 upgrade on top.
  4. Price for that format. Compare what you'd pay for the format you'll actually play, not the headline price.
  5. Upgrades later. Both stores let you upgrade an MP3 to lossless afterwards, so you can start with the MP3 and upgrade the tracks that earn a place.

Whichever store wins, note it next to the track in your buy list. If the file ever needs re-downloading or upgrading, that's where the purchase lives.

Doing this with CatchIt!

CatchIt! is a Mac app with a free iOS companion that keeps one buy list across stores. Kept tracks in the Wishlist have search links for Bandcamp, Beatport, YouTube and Google. There's no Traxsource or Volumo link; for those, the copy button puts a clean "Title Artist" line on your clipboard to paste into the store's search. Mark tracks Done once bought. See Core concepts.
