Shazam history not showing? Find and back up your tracks
Missing Shazams are usually a sync or sign-in problem, not lost data. Check iCloud and account settings first, then keep a second copy of your finds.

When your Shazam history isn't showing, the songs are usually still somewhere: on another device, in a different Apple Account, in Control Center's own history, or waiting for a sync setting you never turned on. Start by working out which tool identified the track, because the Shazam app, Recognize Music in Control Center and Siri don't all save to the same place by default. Then fix the sync settings Apple lists, and add a second copy of your finds so the next glitch costs you nothing.
Where your Shazams are actually stored
Apple's apps give you three ways to identify a song, and each one keeps its own record until sync joins them up.
| How you identified it | Where it's saved first | When it shows in the Shazam app |
|---|---|---|
| The Shazam app on iPhone or iPad | The Shazam app's Library | Straight away |
| Recognize Music in Control Center | The control's own history (touch and hold the control, then tap History) | Only when iCloud and Shazam settings are configured for it |
| Siri, Shortcuts or the Apple Watch Smart Stack | Synced through iCloud | Only when iCloud and Shazam settings are configured for it |
| The Shazam app on Android | The app's Library on that phone | On other devices only if you signed in with Google or email |
Apple's Shazam guide describes the Apple-device side this way: songs identified with Control Center, Siri, the Smart Stack on Apple Watch or the Shortcuts app "are automatically synced to the library in the Shazam app" once your iCloud and Shazam settings are correct. If they aren't, those songs stay in the Recognize Music history and never reach the app.
So before you assume anything is gone, open Control Center, press and hold Recognize Music, then choose History. If the Shazam app is installed, Apple notes that this opens the Shazam app's Library; if your songs aren't there, the sync settings below are the next stop.
Fix the sync on iPhone, iPad and Mac
Apple's guide lists the settings that have to line up for songs to reach the Shazam app on every Apple device. Go through them in order:
- Update the Shazam app to the latest version.
- Turn on two-factor authentication for your Apple Account, under Settings › your name › Sign-In & Security.
- Turn on Music Recognition and Shazam in iCloud. On iPhone or iPad: Settings › your name › iCloud, tap See All next to Saved to iCloud, and check both. On a Mac, Music Recognition is the one to check.
- Turn on iCloud Sync inside the Shazam app. Open the app's settings from the home screen. This is the setting that backs your identified songs up to iCloud, so your other Apple devices can see them.
- Use the same Apple Account everywhere. A second account on an old iPad or a work Mac is a common reason for a split library.
Apple adds that this sync doesn't count against your iCloud storage, so a full iCloud plan isn't the cause. Availability of iCloud features does vary by country or region.
Shazams made without signal
On iPhone, iPad and Android, the Shazam app can take a request while you're offline and identify the song once you're back online. On iPhone and iPad, Recognize Music in Control Center can do the same. There's a catch for the library, though: Apple says that to add songs identified in Control Center to your Shazam library, iCloud Sync must be on in the Shazam app. Turn on notifications for Shazam or Music Recognition too, so you hear about the result when the phone reconnects after a night in a basement club.
Fix it on Android
On Android, the Library belongs to the phone unless you have an account. Apple's Android page recommends signing up with a Google account or an email address, so your Shazams survive if something happens to the device. To check, open the Library in Shazam, tap Settings, and look for Sign Up or Sign In. If that option is showing, you're not signed in, and nothing is being saved off the phone.
Two Android details catch DJs out:
- Pending Shazams can vanish. When there's no connection, the app keeps a fingerprint and tries again later. Apple's page adds that a song that still can't be identified "will disappear from your pending Shazams". Check pending items as soon as you're back online.
- A web library isn't guaranteed. Apple's Android page points signed-in users to shazam.com/myshazam for previous Shazams. When we checked on October 3, 2026, that address returned a 404 for a signed-out visitor, so don't count on it as your only copy.
Symptoms and likely causes
| What you see | Likely cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| Control Center finds aren't in the app | iCloud Sync off in Shazam, or Music Recognition off in iCloud | Steps 3 and 4 above |
| Finds from your iPad are missing on your iPhone | Different Apple Accounts, or two-factor not set up | Steps 2 and 5 |
| A club night's Shazams never arrived | Offline requests not yet processed, or Control Center finds without iCloud Sync | Reconnect, open the app, check notifications |
| A new Android phone shows an empty Library | You weren't signed in on the old one | Sign in on the new phone now; older finds may be unrecoverable |
| Songs are in the app but not in your streaming playlist | Playlist sync isn't on, or it only adds new finds | See the playlist section below |
How to back up Shazam finds
Fixing sync gets your history back. A backup means you won't need to fix it in a hurry next time. Apple documents three ways to get songs out of Shazam, and they suit different jobs.
Sync to a My Shazam Tracks playlist
If you subscribe to Apple Music or Spotify, Shazam can keep a playlist called My Shazam Tracks in that service. Apple's settings page describes the Apple Music option as creating that playlist, with "Existing and newly identified songs" added automatically. For Spotify, the same page mentions only newly identified songs, so treat it as a copy going forward rather than a full archive. Turn it on from the Shazam app's settings: Sync your songs to Apple Music, or connect Spotify and then Sync your songs to Spotify.
Request your Shazam data
At shazam.com/privacy, Shazam account holders can request a download of their data. Apple's Android page walks through it: choose Download Your Data, sign in, enter an email address, and "You'll receive your data by email within 30 days." Apple doesn't spell out what the file contains, so open it when it arrives before you plan around it. Our guide to exporting your Shazam history covers this route step by step.
Share single songs
For one track you can't afford to lose, the share button on a song's track screen sends it to Messages, Mail or another app. It's slow for a whole history, but it's the quickest way to get a single ID to yourself or a friend with the link attached.
Keep a second capture list
Every option above keeps your history inside Apple's ecosystem or a streaming service. For DJs, the history is only half the job anyway: what matters is the short list of tracks you mean to listen to properly and maybe buy. A second capture list, kept separately from Shazam, protects you from sync trouble and gives those tracks a working home. Our pillar on keeping track of every track you hear lays out that system, and Shazam in Control Center covers making capture a one-tap habit.
Doing this with CatchIt!
CatchIt! is a Mac app with a free iOS companion, and its capture list sits alongside Shazam rather than replacing it. It doesn't repair Shazam sync and doesn't import your Shazam history automatically.
- A separate list of your finds. The CatchIt! iOS app has its own Shazam button, and the Shortcut that pairs Apple's Recognize Music with Add to CatchIt! can be pinned to Control Center. Those captures appear in the app's Shazams tab and in the Mac's Inbox under Mobile Shazams.
- Synced and queued. Captures sync between phone and Mac within seconds, and captures made offline queue on the phone until you're back online.
- Your own copy as text. In the iOS Shazams tab, you can select tracks and share them as "Artist - Title" lines. On the Mac, Wishlist rows export as a "Title Artist" text file or a CSV.
- Older lists. If you already have titles and artists in a CSV or plain-text file, CSV Import on the Mac reads title and artist rows into the Inbox. See Capturing tracks and the FAQ.
A quick checklist
- Check Recognize Music's History before assuming anything is lost.
- Confirm one Apple Account, two-factor authentication, Music Recognition and Shazam on in iCloud, and iCloud Sync on in the Shazam app.
- On Android, sign in with Google or email today.
- Turn on My Shazam Tracks if you stream, and request your data at shazam.com/privacy once in a while.
- Move the tracks you care about into the list you sort and buy from.
Frequently asked questions
- Why are my Control Center Shazams missing from the Shazam app?
- Songs you identify with Recognize Music in Control Center only reach the Shazam app's Library when iCloud is set up for it. Apple lists the conditions as the same Apple Account, two-factor authentication, Music Recognition and Shazam turned on in iCloud settings, and iCloud Sync turned on inside the Shazam app.
- Can I get back Shazams from an old Android phone?
- Only if you were signed in. Apple's Android instructions say to create an account with Google or an email address so your Shazams are saved if something happens to your device. Without an account, the Library lived on that phone alone.
- Does the My Shazam Tracks playlist include old Shazams?
- For Apple Music, Apple's settings page says existing and newly identified songs are added. For Spotify, the same page mentions only newly identified songs, so older finds may not appear there.
- How long does a Shazam data download take?
- Apple says the data from a request at shazam.com/privacy arrives by email within 30 days. Request it before you need it, not on the day you lose a phone.
- What's the safest way to back up Shazam finds as a DJ?
- Keep at least two copies in different places, for example the Shazam Library plus a My Shazam Tracks playlist or a separate capture list. Then move the tracks you care about into the list you sort and buy from, so the backup matters less.
